History is filled with the major events that have shaped our reality as we know it today. Historians have been documenting history since the dawn of time, and many painters and artists have used their talents to contribute to this documentation. As photography was invented, it became easier to capture those important moments, and as it was made more mainstream around the mid-1800s, more and more people could do it.

Before photography (not to mention camera phones), documenting history was a much harder task, and it was far trickier to prove that certain events had indeed happened. Pictures became a way for us to witness past events, and be able to relive them as we look as the pictures and see the exact moment clearly before our eyes.

The series of photos we bring you here is a collection of moments documented throughout history. Whether it’s major and monumental events like World War II and the first face transplant, or just interesting photos like that of the workers’ cafeteria at Disneyland – these pictures are fascinating to look at. You could learn a lot just by looking through these pictures, about older times and historical events as you’ve never seen them before.

Some of these pictures have left us surprised, and others made us smile. Sometimes, it’s just hard to imagine things being done differently than they do now, or to imagine how some of the greatest inventions came to be. But these photos bring those moments back to life, and tell us something about our past generations.

Photography has enabled us to experience history like we could never before, and there’s no doubt that seeing these events in pictures is completely different than just reading about them. Imagine learning about the horrible events of the Holocaust, and not seeing the shocking and disturbing images we have of it, or being told that we sent a man to the moon, without seeing the breathtaking video footage.

Time goes by awfully quickly, as we grow up and develop new technologies and new ways of doing things. And some day, we have no doubt our future generations will be looking at pictures of our current events, and they’ll feel just as awestruck to see how much things have changed since our time. Until then, we can look back at these pictures that perfectly demonstrate history as we may have known it, but never witnessed it with our own eyes.
