When taking a trip down memory lane to the wicked years of the 80’s, you’ll find out that some of your favorite stars today actually had their big break during the awesome decade where big hair and shoulder pads were totally cool and acceptable. Let’s get nostalgic with some of your favorite stars and icons from the 80’s.
Brooke Shields – Then
When thinking of the eighties, there’s no doubt that one of the most familiar faces to pop in one’s mind would be the beautiful Brooke Shields. Who doesn’t remember the child star turned model who got famous in the controversial film, Pretty Baby and then was famous for her unforgettable role in the adventure drama, Blue Lagoon alongside Christopher Atkins. Shields turned to modeling later in her teenage years and continued to act in several movies and TV shows.
Brooke Shields – Now
Brooke’s modeling and film career continued to grow and she appeared in endless movies and television shows. After she decided to pause her modeling career, Shields attended Princeton University and in the beginning of the ninties she returend to her true passion which is acting. One of her more famous appearances was on the NBC sitcom, Suddenly Susan which was on air from 1996 to 2000. Shields is also famous for dating pop icon, Michael Jackson. The actress is still together with her secobd husband whom she has two daughters with and she also serves as the spokeswoman for Tupperware’s Chain of Confidence SMART Girls.
Kathleen Turner – Then
The actress with the raspy voice, claimed to fame with her roles in the 1981 film, Body Heat and later in Crime of Passion, Romancing the Stone and Prizzi’s Honor, for which she received a Golden Globe for Best Actress in 1985. Earlier she also did some off-Broadway work with her lead role in Mister T where she costarred with Jonathan Frakes. She also had her foot in the soap opera genre when she appeared on The Doctors.
Kathleen Turner – Now
Later in the beginning of the 90’s, Kathleen continued with her successful film career when she played in Serial Mom and Peggy Sue Got Married, a movie which earned her an OScar nomination for Best Actress in 1986. Her more recent appearances included playing Chandler Bing’s cross-dressing dad, also known as Charles Bing, on the popular sitcom, Friends. Turner has also done some voice over work. Turner married, Jay Weiss, an entrepreneur from New York City, in 1984, however the two split in 2007.
Dianne Wiest – Then
Dianne Wiest’s greatest years definitely started in the 80’s when she starred in Hannah and Her Sisters back in 1986, a role she received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Wiest didn’t stop and went on to play in three Woody Allen films, including The Purple Rose of Cairo, Radio Days and September. The actress received another Oscar nomination when she played in Parenthood, a comedy drama that was directed by Ron Howard.
Dianne Wiest – Now
Later in her career in the late nineties she appeared in the epic film, Edward Scissorhands, where she starred alongside Johnny Depp. Little Man Tate, The Birdcage, Dan in Real Life and Rabbit Hole were only some of the movies that she was in later. She also played Nora Lewin on Law & Order in three different seasons. Wiest has two adopted daughters and she lives in New York City.
Tom Hanks – Then
It seems like Tom Hanks has always been there and was always the big star that he is, after all he’s one of the more likeable stars in Hollywood. However, Hanks did get his big break back in the eighties when he playes in two memorable films, Splash in 1984 and Big in 1988. Hanks did have his first career steps on small TV films where he got to be the leading star in a movie Mazes and Monsters. Later he also landed a lead role in ABC’s Bosom Buddies, where he also met his future wife.
Tom Hanks – Now
Hanks is considered one of the most prominent Hollywood stars till this very day. He appeared in some of the most recognizable and moving films in history including Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile, Cast Away and more. Throughout his career, Hanks was nominated for many important awards. He won an Oscar for Best Actor for his appearance in Philadelphia as well as a Golden Globe award. Hanks is married to his second wife, Rita Wilson since 1988, and together they are one of Hollywood’s most powerful couples.
Kirstie Alley – Then
Alley’s career wasn’t always an acting one, in fact she started as an interior designer before her big breakthrough in 1982 when she played Lieutenant JG Saavik in the epic fictional film, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Besides her movie career which included Summer School, Shoot to Kill, Look Who’s Talking and Sibling Rivalry, Kirstie also did some great television roles, one which she is mostly known for as Rebecca Howe on Cheers, NBC’s sitcom which ran from 1982 to 1993. Kirstie also won an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe for her acting skills on the sitcom.
Kirstie Alley – Now
Later in her acting career, Alley continued to land roles on the small screen and she starred as the lead role in the sitcom, Veronica’s Closet for three years, a role she received two nominations for. Just like many stars, Alley turned to Reality Television and in In 2000 she had a reality show that was following her real life. Just recently she joined the cast of Scream Queens, the Fox horror comedy series, as Ingrid Hoffel.
Geena Davis – Then
With her unique beauty, it’s no wonder that Davis’s early career was in fact a modeling one before turning to acting. She has a BA in Drama from Boston University where she graduated from in 1979. Davis first tried her luck with television, but her big break came when Sydney Pollack cast her for the 1982 film, Tootsie. Following the good critics on her rolem Geena packed her stuff and moved to LA and from then everything’s history.
Geena Davis – Now
Davis later continued to succeed in different films, where one of the more famous ones being Thelma & Louise. The actress won a Golden Globe Award for her exquisite role on Commander in Chief in 2005. Her most recent appearance was on the popular Grey’s Anatomy where she played Dr. Nicole Herman. Geena’s second marriage was to plastic surgeon, Reza Jarrahy and the two have three children together.
Kirk Cameron – Then
The young hunk from the eighties had his big breakthrough and rose to fame on when he played Mike Seaver on the family sitcom, Growing Pains, which debuted in 1985. His acting career began when he was just nine years old when he landed his first job at a breakfast cereal commercial. Cameron later starred in the 1987 hit Like Father Like Son, and was a guest star on a Full House episode in 1988, where he played alongside his famous sister, Candace Cameron, aka, D.J Tanner. Kirk was on the cover of many teen magazines as he was huge star by the end of the eighties.
Kirk Cameron – Now
Undoubtedly, Cameron’s career was at its peak in the eighties. The actor appeared in the Growing Pains movie in 2000 and its sequel in 2004, Growing Pains: Return of the Seavers. Later he appeared in some low budget films and documentaries and even unfortunately received an award for Worst Actor. Cameron married his Growing Pains costar, Chelsea Noble and the two have six children, four of which they adopted.
Christina Applegate – Then
It was only until the later years of the eighties that Christina hit stardom with her role as the ditzy, careless and very funny Kelly Bundy on the hit sitcom, Married With Children where she starred alongside Ed O’neill. Applegate’s mom, Nancy Lee Priddy, was also an actress and in fact she has her television debut when she costarred with her own mother in Days of Our Lives. Her first film appearance was in 1979, Jaws of Satan.
Christina Applegate – Now
Applegate later appeared in a few movies and television shows. Her first television film was she played the role of the young Grace Kelly in the movie in 1983. In recent years she starred in The Vacation and in Bad Moms which was released earlier this year. She also had some small screen appearances as a guest star, one of them was on a Friends’ episode. Since 2008, Christina has been bravely fighting breast cancer.
Nina Hartley – Then
Marie Louise Hartman, aka Nina Hartley started off her career as an exotic dancer. At the time she was also studying nursing at the San Francisco State University. Although being a nurse was and still is considered quite a solid profession, Hartley decided to pursuit a little more exciting career in the adult film industry. She then became one of the top actresses in her field.
Nina Hartley – Now
Today, Hartley is still a big name in the adult film industry, she has more than a thousand movies in her resume and she’s considered an iconic star in her field. Hartley also starred in several documentaries about the adult film industry and even won Best Actress and a Lifetime achievement award.
Madonna – Then
The queen of pop, also known as Madonna, is probably the most famous female singer and performer in the world, and as much as she doesn’t look her age, the iconic star came to fame when she debuted her first album: Madonna: The First Album, in 1982. Madonna later pursued a career in film and ended up playing in movies such as Desperately Seeking Susan, Dick Tracy and Evita, which she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in 1996. One of the more iconic moments was when the singer performed her famous “Like a Virgin” at the 1984 VMA.

Madonna has some of the most famous songs which she also produced including: “Papa Don’t Preach”, “Like a Prayer”, “Vogue”, “Frozen”, and more, many of which hit number one records on the charts. The singer has sold over 300 million records all around the world and hit the first place on VH1’s list of 100 Greatest Women in Music. In 1985 she married actor, Sean Penn and later divorced. In 1998 she married director Guy Ritchie, whom she has a son with, Coco. The two eventually divorced in 2008. Madonna has an adopted son from Malawi named David Banda.
Melanie Griffith – Then
The 59 year old rose to fame and had her big break for her 1984 role in Body Double which she earned her first important award for. Subsequently she appeared in Something Wild before her big role as Tess McGill on Working Girl where she starred alongside Harrison Ford and Sigourney Weaver. She received a Golden Globe award and an Oscar nomination. Griffith’s first career move was in commercial when she was only nine months old.
Melanie Griffith – Now
Till this very day Griffith has had many film and television appearances, the latest being on the film The Masterpiece. During the nineties she mainly worked on mainstream movies such as Now and Then and Two Much in 1996, where she met her future and famous husband, Antonio Banderas. The two were one of Hollywood’s power and most high profile couples being married for 19 years until they recently divorced.
Tom Cruise – Then
Cruise who was born in 1962, is one of the highest paid and famous actors in the world today. He began his acting when he was already in high-school and at 18 he moved to New York to pursue his dream. His film debut was when he played a small role in the 1981 film, Endless Love. His next years in the eighties were probably some of the more important ones in his career when he starred in some great hits including Top Gun, Rain Man and The Color of Money.
Tom Cruise – Now
Cruise is still one of the busiest actors in Hollywood today with an impressive record of hit movies where he starred throughout the years including Jerry Maguire and the Mission Impossible series. He was married to three famous actresses: Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes and today is a strong advocate of Scientology.
Demi Moore – Then
The model turned actress and the Ghost star’s first acting career appearance was on the soap opera, General Hospital. She in fact dropped out of high school in order to chase her dreams. She rose to fame in the mid eighties when she starred in the romantic comedy Blame It on Rio, but it wasn’t until her performance in About Last Night which earned her real Hollywood stardom.
Demi Moore – Now
Moore continued with her acting career and had some big roles in movies throughout the years, which included Striptease, Charlie’s Angels and G.I. Jane where she was able to show off her amazing body figure. In 1987 she married her second husband fellow actor, Bruce Willis, whom she had three daughters with, but the couple divorced years later. She then famously started dating Ashton Kutcher who is 15 years younger than Moore and the two tied the knot in 2005. Their high profile marriage ended in divorce at the end of 2013.
Jessica Lange – Then
Jessica Lange is a bit of an acting legend these days. She burst onto the scene with an Academy Award for her role in Tootsie, and she’s never looked back since.

She has won the so-called Triple Crown of acting (Oscar, Emmy and Tony Award). And most recently she has a recurring role in American Horror Story.
Rob Lowe – Then
The blue-eyed hunk rose to fame when he appeared in the eighties films The Outsiders, Oxford Blues and About Last Night. He also had a role on the television film Thursday’s Child, a role he received a Golden Globe nomination. His big break came when he was cast on The Outsiders where he co starred with Emilio Estevez. Lowe received his second Golden Globe nomination after he appeared on Square Dance where he had a challenging yet incredible role as a mentlly disabled.
Rob Lowe – Now
Lowe’s career continued to rise in the nineties and many remember him from the Mike Myers hit film, Wayne’s World, and later in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and the 2002 sequel. His small screen career was also on the rise where he played Robert McCallister on ABC’s Brothers & Sisters and most recenly starred on The Grinder. Lowe is still happily married to Sheryl Berkoff, whom he met on a blind date in 1983 and the couple has two sons.
Loni Anderson – Then
It’s been quite a while, but we’re betting you haven’t forgotten about this lovely lady from the ’80s, Loni Anderson. You’ll especially remember her if you were a fan of hit sitcom, WKRP in Cincinnati, where she played the role of sultry receptionist, Jennifer Marlowe. In fact, she did such a good job portraying this character that she was able to earn three Golden Globe Awards, as well as two Emmy nominations – and just wait till you see what she looks like now.
Loni Anderson – Now
Having gone through a number of disappointing marriages and divorces, one of them to notable noted ladies’ man actor Burt Reynolds, Anderson ended up getting married to Bob Flick in 2008, and they are reportedly still together. Since her time on Cincinnati, Anderson has appeared in a number of other projects on screen, including the cult classic comedy film A Night At The Roxbury, which came out in the late ’90s. As you can see here, she’s still looking pretty good!
Kelly LeBrock – Then
Kelly LeBrock set the standard for “teenage dream” with a Pantene commercial in the 80’s. Her “Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful” slogan gained her widespread attention and she soon became the most sought-after model of the decade. She pursued a career in film when she was cast alongside Gene Wilder in The Woman in Red and was every adolescent’s typical daydream prototype in 85’s Weird Science. Let’s not forget one of her biggest accomplishments of the era – her infamous marriage (and later divorce) to action star Steven Seagal.
Kelly LeBrock – Now
Kelly starred in a few flicks during the 90’s such as Betrayal of the Dove, Hard to Kill, and Wrongfully Accused. Afterwards, she sort of flew under the radar until she made an appearance on VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club in 2005. She’s also made small appearances in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Zerophilia.
Kim Basinger – Then
The blonde bombshell had a prosperous time in terms of her career. After she retired from her very successful modeling career oin the 70’s, Bassinger decided to pursue acting and so se moved from New York to Los Angeles. Her film debut was in a drama named Hard Country in 1981. By 1983 she was already a Bond girl, Domino Petachi, where she played alongside Sean Connery.
Kim Basinger – Now
Bassinger’s film career continued to rise, and one of the biggest highlights of her career was in 1997 where she played Lynn Bracken in L.A Confidential, a film which earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, as well as a SAG award. Since 2000 she appeared in different films including I Dreamed of Africa, 8 Mile, Cellular and in 2017 she will play in Fifty Shades Darker.
Kelly McGillis – Then
Who doesn’t remember the beautiful instructor, Charlotte “Charlie” Blackwood, from Top Gun. She also had some other roles in the eighties including films such as Witness where she played alongside Harrison Ford. McGillis in fact was a Golden Globe and BAFTA nominee for her role in the film. The actress actually gained her acting education when she attended the prestigious Julliard school back in the late seventies.
Kelly McGillis – Now
Since her big break, the actress had a somewhat low key acting career. Since she graduated she did mostly theatre and television and in 2007 she became a cast member on the fifth season of Showtime’s The L Word. In terms of her personal life, McGillis went through two divorces and she actually came out in 2009 during a televised interview on SheWired. She met her partner, Melanie Leis, a sales executive in 2000 when Leis was working as a bartender at the bar that the two met in. The later broke up in 2011. Just recently, the actress was assaulted by a stranger that broke into her home.
Then – Linda Evans
Linda Evans is yet another very well known star from the 80s, but if we’re being honest, she was a celebrity long before that. Indeed, she’s been killing it on the airwaves ever since she gained notice on the hit 60s series The Big Valley, where she played the role of Audra Barkley. That said, the role she is a lot more well known for is that of Krystle Carrington from the ABC primetime soap opera known as Dynasty.
Now – Linda Evans
Considering Dynasty ran pretty much throughout all of the 80s, we feel pretty justified presenting Linda Evans as a classic 80s icon, but she has certainly been up to a lot since this period in her life. In the 90s she appeared in a few movies that appeared on television called The Stepsister and The Gambler Returns, furthering her career as an actress. She also held down a ten year romantic relationship with a famous Greek musician known as Yanni during this time.
Then – Linda Kozlowski
This former Golden Globe nominee was well known across the world back in the 80s for her appearance in the Australian film Crocodile Dundee, and then again in the sequel, Crocodile Dundee 2. People were especially fans of the on screen relationship she had with her co-star of the film series, Paul Hogan – especially when this relationship transformed from fiction to reality.
Now – Linda Kozlowski
Indeed, Linda and Paul Hogan were quite the cute couple back in the 80s, and unlike many of their contemporaries, they stuck with it for quite a while. They eventually married in 1990, but would later divorce in 2014. Linda is certainly one of the most iconic ladies of the 80s, and although she isn’t as much in the public spotlight anymore, there is plenty of nostalgia to go around when it comes to her.
Elle Macpherson – Then
The Aussie model became famous when she appeared on not one, but five Sports Illustrated covers in the eighties, a fact which earned her her famous nickname, The Body. Intially, Macpherson was enrolled in university to study law and pretty much only modelled in order to cover her payments. Her rpfile grew faster than she thought and she soon found herself on the cover of some of the biggest and most important fashion magazines as well as walking the runways for the most famous designers like Ralph Lauren, Dior, Calvin Klein and more.
It’s almost unbelievable that the former supermodel is 52 years old these days, as she literally looks almost the same as she did thirty years ago. When she was just 21 she married the known creative director of Elle, Gilles Bensimon, however the two divorced three years later. Macpherson, besides being a former supermodel, she is also a bussinesswoman and holds many ventures such as her lingerie line, Elle Macpherson Intimates and a skin care products line. Macpherson’s latest relatiobship is with her billionaire husband, Jeffrey Soffer.
Sigourney Weaver – Then
Some of Weaver’s most recognizable films include the Alien films where she played Ellen Ripley and her roles on the hit Ghostbusters movies. The American actress took her talent to stage and after performing on an Off Broadway play in the beginning of the eighties, Das Lusitania Songspie, she was nominated for a Drama Desk Award. She later earned her Tony Award nomination after her Broadway play, Hurlyburly.
Sigourney Weaver – Now
Weaver has Weaver is a multiple Golden Globe Award nominee. She later won a Best Actress in Drama and Best Supporting Actress for her famous roles in Gorillas in the Mist and Working Girl. Weaver has also done some voiuce over work for Finding Dory adn Wall-E and appeared in the epic Avatar film that was direcetd by James Cameron. Weaver is still maried to hubby, Jim Simpson since 1984 and they have a daughter together.
Molly Ringwald – Then
The red headed teen idol will always be remembered from her legendary roles in the some of the eighties greatest teen movies including Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Pretty In Pink, all directed by John Hughes. She subsequently starred in The Pick-up Artist and the comedy drama teen movie, For Keeps. She was also a very talented singer and was even the main vocalist on two Disney Albums. In 1982 she had a Golden Globe nominee for her role in Tempest.
Molly Ringwald – Now
The actress kept on with her acting career all though the nineties with films like Something to Live for: The Alison Gertz Story and The Stand which was released in 1994. Ringwald was ranked number one on VH1’s 100 Greatest Teen Stars. Molly’s marriage to Panio Gianopoulos, a Greek-American book editor is her second marriage and the two have three children together, one daughter and twins. Molly recently appeared on the Canadian sitcom, Raising Expectations.
Jon Cryer – Then
Cryer also got his big break in the eighties alongside his fellow female star, Molly Ringwald, when he starred on the teen classic Pretty in Pink as Phil “Duckie” Dale. When he was 19, the actor mad an appearance in No Small Affair, a romantic comedy from 1984. Five years later he got another big break, only this time on television with his role on The Famous Teddy Z, however due to bad reviews, the show didn’t survive past its first season.
Jon Cryer – Now
Jon made several film and television appearances, but his most famous and recent role is of Alan Harper on Two and a Half Men, CBS’s sitcom that ran from 2003 to 2015. Cryer who costarred with Charlie Sheen and later with Ashton Kutcher, was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series several times. In 1999, Cryer married Sarah Trigger, a British actress but the two divorced in 2004 afnd share a son. He later married Lisa Joyner, and the two adopted a girl.
Carrie Fisher – Then
Who can forget the very famous and incredibly sexy Princess Leia from the Star Wars trilogy between 1977 and 1983, and later on the 2015 sequel Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Although she had a few appearances in different cult films such as on The Blues Brothers, and on Woody Allen’s Hannah and Her Sisters, Fisher was always mostly recognized for her Star Wars epic role.
Carrie Fisher – Now
In later years, Fisher turned to writing as well and published her fist semi autobiography, Postcards from the Edge which was later turned into a movie. The book dealt with personal issues such as her infamous relationship with her mother and a drug addiction. Fisher continued to act in films including The Burbs, Scream 3, The Women and is bound to play in the new Star War movie, Star Wars: Episode VIII in 2017.
Alyssa Milano – Then
Milano was a hard working actress ever since she was a child, when she auditioned for the Off-Broadway touring company of Annie. After she was chosen as one of the four leading roles, she went on tour and was in the road with her mom for a year and a half. Milano had her breakthrough when she landed the part of Tony Danza’s daughter, on ABC’s Who’s The Boss? which first aired in 1984.
Alyssa Milano – Now
The sweet actress continued to blossom on television many years later when she starred on shows such as Melrose Place when she played Jennifer Mancini, Charmed, Mistresses and more. After she broke her engagement to actor Scott Wolf, Milano married singer Cinjun Tate, however the two divorced a year later. She is now married to David Bugliari whom she has two children with.
Michael J Fox – Then
Michael J Fox’s film debut was in 1980n when he featured in Midnight Madness, but it was Class of 1984 which rose him to fame. In 1985 it was his real and major breakthrough when he was cast as Marty McFly on the legendary film Back to the Future, a film that was about a teenage boy who travels back in time from the eighties to the fifties. He was also on the popular show, Family Ties with a lead role from 1982 to 1989.
Michael J Fox – Now
The 5 year old actor was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in the beginning of the nineties when he was only 29, which changed his career and personal life forever. He is a big spokesperson and advocate for the research that is done for that horrible disease. Since the last decade he has mostly done voice over work and made some guest appearances on shows like Boston Legal and Scrubs. The Canadian – American actor has published three books and was also included on Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2000.
Glenn Close – Then
Glenn Close is a three-time Academy Award nominee for Best Supporting Actress for her roles in the eighties films The World According to Garp, The Big Chill and The Natural. She did both musicals and plays and was always acclaimed for what a versatile actress she is that can do many roles and characters. Throughout her career, Close has won three Tony Awards, and three Emmys.
Glenn Close – Now
Close has continued to work hard and till this very day is still very active. In 2003 she won a Golden Globe for her role as Eleanor of Aquitaine in The Lion in Winter,. winning a Golden Globe Award. She was the evil Cruella De Vil in 101 Dalmatians and between 2007 and 2012 she played the role of Patty Hewes on FX’s drama series, Damages. Close was married and got divorced a few times, the last one ended in 2015.
Bill Murray – Then
The 66 year old actor and comedian rose to fame and gained mainstream recognition when he was part of the Saturday Night Live cast back in 1977 for which he received his first Emmy award. Appearing on the satirical show really opened the door to comedy for Murray who later starred in films like Meatballs, Stripes, Tootsie, Ghostbusters (both films), Scrooged and more.
Bill Murray – Now
Murray later gained critical acclaim when he starred alongside Scarlett Johansson in Lost in Translation in 2003. He won a Golden Globe and a Bafta Award for Best Actor for his role in the movie. His personal life was also quite dynamic when Murray married Margaret Kelly in 1981 on Super Bowl Sunday. The two had two sons, but after an affair he was having, the couple split in 1994. Murray later married Jennifer Butler, with whom he was having the affair with and they had four sons together, however she filed for divorce in 2008. Most recently Murray was honored with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
Anjelica Huston – Then
Huston, who came from long time family of famous actors and Award winners and joined the family tradition when in 1985 she won an Academy Award for her role in Prizzi’s Honor. Later in the eighties she received an Oscar nomination for Enemies, a Love Story and The Grifters. When she was just 18, Huston started dating Bob Richardson, a photographer, and after their split she started dating Jack Nicholson in 1973, but their on and off relationship didn’t make it far.
Anjelica Huston – Now
Her roles later in her career included Morticia Addams in the fantasy comedy, The Addams Family in both films from 1991 and 1993. She even received a Golden Globe for her roles. Huston particularly liked working with Wes Anderson and so she often joined him on his films, stwo of which include The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Angelica found time for some writing work and released two biographies.
Barbara Hershey – Then
The star who began acting when she was 17 years old, got her big break when she starred in Martin Scorsese’s film, a film that was not only Scorsese’s first film to direct in Hollywod, but was also on a very low budget. During the nineties and later on, Barbara didn’t stop and she starred in movies like Beaches and Black Swan alongside Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. She even won a Golden Globe for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniserie and an Emmy for playing Candy Morrison n A Killing in a Small Town. Till this day, Hershey still makes appearances in films and on television shows, one of the more recent ones was on the series, Damien.
Daryl Hannah – Then
The blonde beauty is probably mostly famous for when she played Madison the mermaid on the 1984 hit, Splash. In the movie she costarred with Tom Hanks. Although appearing on Splash was het big shot to fame, she actually made her film devut in 1978 in the horror film, The Fury. She continued with the horror genre when she landed a role costarring with Rachel Ward in The Final Terror.

Hannah, who always seemed to have a bit of a thing for fantasy films, was cast as part of the legendary cast of Tarantino’s Kill Bill movies. Thompson made her film debut in 1983 with Jaws 3-D but she is probably mostly famous and recognized from her role in 1985 as Lorraine Baines McFly, the mom of Marty McFly who was played by Michael J Fox, in the Back to the Future film trilogy. She later appeared in movies including All the Right Moves and The Wild life, Some Kind of Wonderful, The Wizard of Loneliness, and had a significant appearance in Nightbreaker a film which earned her a nomination for a CableACE Award.

The actress has pretty much dropped her film career and leaned more towards the small screen. Her recent work includes playing Kathryn Kennish, on the ABC series Switched at Birth. Thompson was also in season 19 of Dancing with the Stars where she finished sixth. She has been married to director, Howard Deutch, since 1989, whom she met on Some Kind of Wonderful.
Bruce Willis – Then
The famous actor who started his acting career Off Broadway, is now one of the more famous stars in Hollywood. His first big role was on television when he starred as David Addison in Moonlighting in the mid eighties and made appearances in an episode on Miami Vice in 1984. When it comes to his film career, his first big role was as John McClane in the Die Hard movie series. While Monnlighting was so successful, it even earned Willis Emmy and Golden Globe awards.

Willis is 61 years old and is still looking very young and quite incredible for his age. Since his rich career in the eighties, Willis made some great appearances in hit movies like Pulp Fiction, 12 Monkeys, Armageddon and The Sixth Sense. He was famously married to actress Demi Moore, but the couple divorced in 2000 after they had three daughters. Willis is married to British model Emma Heming.
Cyndi Lauper – Then
No one screams ’80’s’ more than Cyndi Lauper. The singer pretty much had all the elements that the wicked period included: the colorful funky hair, the debatable fashion choices and quirky make up. Lauper had some of the most recognizable hits that are still stuck in our heads till this very day. These include ‘Girls Just Want to have Fun’ and Time After Time’. In 1983 she even became the first female artist to have four top – five hits on the Billboard Hot 100.

Despite how popular Lauper was in the 80’s, the pop and fashion icon had a more relaxed time a decade later as she has evolved in terms of her musical style. The 63 year old singer can sit back and enjoy her years as she has sold over 50 million albums worldwide and won several music awards including a Grammy. She is also a big supporter of the LGBT community.
James Spader – Then
If you think back real hard you might remember Spader from when he starred alongside Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink, one of the most iconic teen films in history. He landed his first acting gig in Tuff Turf, a film from 1985. After Pretty in Pink, the young aspiring actor didn’t stop and he went on to star in different films gaining his star status in movies like Less Than Zero, Wall Street and Sex, Lies and Videotape.
James Spader – Now
When the 90’s arrived, Spader lost some of his stardust however he managed to bounce back when he played the role of Alan shore on Boston Legal. That was the beginning of his big-screen to small-screen transformation as he later went on to be part of the amazing cast of The Office. His most significant role, however, arrived when he landed the role of Raymond ‘Red’ Reddington on The Blacklist. In 2015 he returned to the big screen as Ultron in the movie, Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Soleil Moon Frye – Then
While most of the 80’s stars on this list are already very much into their 50’s and some even into their 60’s, the former child star is an exception. Soleil Moon Frye landed the role of Punky Brewster at seven years old after she auditioned against 3,000 other hopeful young girls who wished to win the role of NBC’s show at the time. The California born was extremely popular among the younger generation, who probably didn’t notice how the show was struggling in the ratings.

Judd Nelson was all over the teen films in the 1980s. He starred in films like The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo’s Fire, Fandango, and Relentless. He was linked to Hollywood heavyweights such as Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis as he was costarring alongside them on the television show Moonlighting.

Steve was one busy guy in the 80s. He starred in films such as Diner, Police Academy (the role that propelled him to stardom), Three Men and a Baby (yet another film that made his face known), and Cocoon. Steve prefers film to television but that didn’t stop him from landing roles in television movies like, To Race the Wind, and Miracle On Ice.

He retired from boxing in 1994 to focus entirely on acting.

Jon Bon Jovi rocked audiences all over the world. His band, Bon Jovi, got started in 1983 and has been kicking it ever since. The band’s 1986 album, Slippery When Wet, catapulted the band to international stardom with the songs, You Give Love A Bad Name, Livin’ On A Prayer, Never Say Goodbye, and Wild in the Streets. A lot of the songs were written by Rickie Sambora as well, but all were written by Jon himself.

Jon has continued to gain more and more fans along his career. He continues to sing, but has also added acting to his impressive resume. George Michael was a legend in the 80s, his songs were playing in every club. He was part of the duo Wham! that made his name known worldwide and his personal life a matter of public opinion. There were always questions about his personal life, but George always wanted to focus on his music.

George Michael sadly passed away in December 2016. His legions of fans were stunned to learn that the star passed away. Lucky for us, we will always have his music to remember him by. Just as in literature, through music, one never dies and neither will he.

Looking back at the 80’s, Astin’s most famous role was when he played Mikey Walsh on the adventure comedy movie, The Goonies when he was 13. That was his big acting breakthrough. Before he rose to fame with The Goonies, his first footsteps were on the small screen when he played alongside his actress mother, Patty Duke, in the movie, Please Don’t Hit Me, Mom.’

Before she landed her big role as Blair Warner, which paved her way to stardom, Lisa Whelchel was part of the famous Mickey Mouse Club, a club that many celebrities like Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling have been a part of. She was part of the cast of the successful sitcom, Facts of Life for nearly nine years. She later released her debut Christian pop album, which turned out to be a a great success.

She played the sassy, bob bon lover and lazy wife of Al Bundy on the 1987 sitcom, Married With Children. After the successful show went of the air in 1997, the actress continued to act on the small screen in a few sitcoms until she landed her next job when she lent her voice for the character of Leela in Futurama.

The 63 year old has found another television home on Sons of Anarchy playing Gemma Teller Morrow, a role for which she won a Golden Globe in 2011. Some of the most exciting news regarding Sagal’s career is that she joined the cast of The Big bang Theory playing the mom Kaley Cuoco’s character, Penny. You can also notice Sagal on the hit movie, Pitch Perfect 2.

Before the blonde bombshell got her big break on Aaron Spelling’s Melrose Place playing the strong advertising executive, Amanda Woodward, she was on a series named T.J Hooker. When she left the series in 1985, Locklear became part of the cast of Dynasty, until the show was cancelled in 1989. For her role on Melrose Place, she has received four Golden Globe nominations in four consecutive years.

Joey’s career in acting didn’t stop after the 80’s and he co starred in Blossom, the hit TV series from 1991 to 1995, playing Joey Russo. He also hit the big screen in different movies including Urban Legends: Final Cut. In 2006 the hunky actor appeared on Dancing with the Stars where he won third place. Lawrence met his second wife while on vacation in Disney World and the couple have two daughters.
Tony Danza – Then
You can’t reminisce on the 80’s without looking back at one of the most popular television shows at the time, Who’s The Boss? Tony Danza, who started his professional career in the boxing ring, headed to Tinsel Town to pursue a career in acting and funnily enough he was cast as a taxi driver and a part time boxer. After Taxi ended in 1983, it didn’t take long before Danza landed his next big role when he was cast as the lead role in the Golden Globe nominated show, Who’s The Boss?.

After his golden years on the successful show ended, the star went on to star in a couple of small screen shows including Family Law and The Practice. He even had his own talk show. The hunky New York born actor hasn’t been able to regain his former success and the 65 year old can mostly be seen on reruns.
Debbie Gibson- Then
Debbie Gibson was one of the youngest, most successful pop stars of the 1980’s. Debbie’s first hit “Only In My Dreams” reached the top of charts and was soon followed by “Foolish Beat” and “Shake Your Love.” Debbie was recognized internationally and became a club sensation and the queen of the dance floor. During the 90’s, Debbie’s popularity fizzled and she slowly began to take a break from the limelight.

Debbie’s final hit in 2005 was called “Naked” and was promoted around the same time she released her official spread for Playboy Magazine. A few years later, she teamed up with fellow pop star Tiffany for a worldwide tour. The last time she made a filmed appearance was when she joined another 80’s icon in Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night” music video. Speaking of that young, troubled 80’s star…
Corey Feldman – Then
The 1980’s were all about the Coreys. Corey Feldman, along with his best friend, Corey Haim were the teenage acting duo that made audiences flock to the theaters every summer. Before he was a teen icon, Corey was a child actor who had appeared in classic tv sitcoms like The Bad News Bears, Mork & Mindy and Cheers. It wasn’t until the trifecta, Gremlins, Stand By Me and The Goonies, where he really developed his acting chops and catapulted his career. After The Lost Boys was released, Corey’s name would be known forever.

Today, Corey Feldman is singing a different tune… literally. The 45 year old is currently promoting his band Corey’s Angels, which he founded with a group of bunnies he met at the Playboy Mansion. He’s made headlines with some controversial behavior and performances, although, we have to admit that the loss of his best friend Corey Haim justifiably took an emotional toll on him.

If you were afraid that we were going to leave out one of the most important members of the Brat Pack, then you’re sorely mistaken. Ally Sheedy wasn’t just a talented actress, but a best-selling author by the age of 12. She made her on-screen debut alongside Sean Penn in Bad Boys, then went on to star in St. Elmo’s Fire, The Breakfast Club, and WarGames. Sadly, her addiction to painkillers stifled her career by the mid 90’s.
Ally Sheedy – Now
After Ally successfully rehabilitated herself throughout the 1990’s, she was able to make a television comeback. She has appeared on Psych and CSI, as well The Dead Zone, joining up with her old Brat Pack friend, Anthony Michael Hall (more on him later, though). Ally has one child with her ex-husband, David Lansbury, whom she was married to for almost 2 decades.
John Cusack – Then
John Cusack started out his career as an unofficial members of Hollywood’s Brat Pack, but he decided to take his talents and expand upon them to advance his career. His most notable teen films were Better Off Dead, Stand By Me, and Sixteen Candles. However, it wasn’t until Say Anything was released that he became the heartthrob he was meant to be.

Today, John Cusack is one of the most successful actors in Hollywood. He’s starred in (and completely owned) epic films like Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil, High Fidelity, Love & Mercy, Being John Malkovich, and many more. It’s surprising that he hasn’t been nominated for an Oscar yet, right? We’re talking to you, Academy.
Tiffany – Then
Tiffany wasn’t just a reigning pop star in the 80’s, she embodied the decade stood for. At the age of 10 she began performing for live crowds and signed her first record deal at the age of 16. With “I Think We’re Alone Now,” Tiffany raised to the top of the charts and became a radio sensation. Follow ups to her immortal classic included “I Saw Him Standing There” and Could’ve Been.”

Unfortunately, Tiffany’s debut album was the only discography that would see critical success. Her next two releases fell flat amongst audiences everywhere and she began exercising other avenues to restore her fame. In 2002, she posed for Playboy Magazine and slightly regained the interest of her older fans. Since the 2000’s, she has appeared on VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club and Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling.
Anthony Michael Hall – Then
Anthony Michael Hall was the most unlikely members of The Brat Pack in the 80s but that didn’t make him any less lovable. In the teen flicks that the popular “in-crowd” used to star in, he was usually the nerdy character who couldn’t catch a break with the ladies. In hits like Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and National Lampoon’s Vacation, Hall was able to remain under the spotlight for a considerable period of the decade.
Anthony Michael Hall – Now
During the 90’s, the former Brat Pack member took a leave of absence from the film industry to battle his problem with alcohol abuse. It took him a few years to fully rehabilitate himself, as well as his image, but in 2007, he came back strong in The Dead Zone. Since his comeback, he’s been making some serious strides in Hollywood these days.
Jennifer Grey- Then
Nobody puts baby in a corner, right? Jennifer Grey paved the way (with PAtrick Swayze, of course) for films like Footloose and Flashdance to make it big in the 1980’s. Before she was Baby, though, she was well-known for her first role alongside Swayze in Red Dawn. She was also featured in one of the most popular teen films of all time, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and then that whole Dirty Dancing thing paid off.
Jennifer Grey – Now
In the early 90’s, Jennifer underwent facial reconstruction surgery and now, she’s barely recognizable. She has been quoted in the past saying that she “accidentally went into the Witness Protection Program” but that hasn’t stopped her from owning her new face. She’s retired from acting since then and was a contestant on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.
Ralph Macchio – Then
Ralph Macchio started out a child actor in television commercials but soon became an international success overnight. Macchio landed his first major role in Eight is Enough and there after, was cast alongside superstars Patrick Swayze, Tom Cruise, and Matt Dillon in The Outsiders. It wasn’t until The Karate Kid that he became unstoppable and the franchise kept him busy for the remainder of the decade.

Ralph Macchio’s career slowed down in the 90’s but that didn’t stop him from surprising us every now and then. He’s almost 5 years old and looks fantastic! He’s made appearances on shows like Psych, How I Met Your Mother, Dancing with the Stars, and Ugly Betty.
Mia Sara – Then
Just wait until we fill you in on Mia Sara’s modern life! The actress best known for her role as Sloane Peterson in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was the definition of girlfriend material in 1980’s. She got her start in the movie Legend alongside Tom Cruise and would be featured in many motion picture films until the early 90’s. In 1994, she was a Best Actress Saturn Award for her role in 94’s Timecop.
Mia Sara – Now
After her big win, Mia decided to retire from acting and settle. She married Muppets creator Jim Henson’s oldest son, Brian. Together, they have one daughter named Amelia. Before her marriage to Muppets heir, she married to Sean Connery’s son, Jason. Mia certainly knows how to pick Hollywood royalty!
Pheobe Cates – Then
Phoebe Cates may have not had the longest acting career in history, but she did have one of the most infamous scene known in Hollywood today. The teen icon broke onto the scene in Fast Times at Ridgemont High and grew in popularity after 1984’s Gremlins. Her last film of the decade was Drop Dead Fred and unfortunately for Phoebo fans everywhere, she retired after Fred flopped.
Pheobe Cates – Now
Today, Phoebe reportedly enjoys her life as a mother. She has two children with her husband, Kevin Kline, and the family lives on Madison Avenue in New York City. Together, the married couple runs a boutique called Blue Tree and we hear they’re quite successful. It sounds like Phoebe had her cake and got to eat it too!
Jennifer Beals – Then
Jennifer Beals was the lucky lady who landed the role of every young actress’ dream when she was cast in Flashdance. She put her education at Yale University on hold to dedicate all of her time and energy to the part, then she returned to the Ivy League school to finish her degree. Notably, she turned down a role in St. Elmo’s Fire which would have had a massive impact on her career but she she still made her name as an 80’s icon. She also starred in The Bride and Vampire Kiss, as well as some low-budget flicks before the 90’s.
Jennifer Beals – Now
Today, Jennifer spends most of her time practicing photography and being a wife and mother. You mighthave seen her in The Book of Eli or on The L word but otherwise, she keeps a pretty low profile. In 2015, Beals was the star lead on a TNT series named Proof, but unfortuantely, the show was cut short after just 10 episodes. At 52 years old, Jennifer looks as stunning as ever and keeps herselffit as a triathlete and activist.
