Born Anthony Michael Bourdain on June 25, 1956, Anthony Bourdain is one of the most famous celebrity chefs in the world. Yet, his talents didn’t end in the kitchen. Over the course of his career, Anthony made a name for himself as a television personality, travel documentarian, and author. He used his life to explore every single aspect of the world – and food made up a huge part of that exploration. So, where did this love of food come from? Well, Anthony was raised in New Jersey by his mother and father. His mother worked as a staff editor for the esteemed newspaper, The New York Times, while his father worked in the music industry as a classic executive. With little cooking experience behind them, Anthony wasn’t introduced to the culinary world until he took a trip with his family to France during his early childhood. During this vacation, Anthony and his family found their way onto a fisherman’s boat and rode the ocean waves.

While watching the waves go by, Anthony tried something he had never tasted before in his life; an oyster! This first taste sparked a brand new obsession in his life, and he later went on to work in various seafood restaurants during his high school and college life. Although Bourdain attended Vassar College for the first two years of his degree, he decided that a traditional college education was not what he wanted in life. So, he dropped out and found a brand new place within The Culinary Institute of America. It was here that Anthony truly perfected his craft and experimented with new and exotic flavors.

After graduating from The Culinary Institute of America, Anthony Bourdain went on to work in some of the best restaurants in New York – and this put his name firmly on the map. Before too long he was introduced to the celebrity world and being offered opportunity after opportunity to expand his brand and create a lasting legacy that will go down in history. Sadly, these opportunities were cut short on June 8, 2018, when it was confirmed that Anthony had passed away. Despite this heart-wrenching news, our hearts are mended when we think about the incredible legacy Anthony Bourdain has left on the world…
