In the rivers in Noakhali, Bangladesh, Belal found himself in a situation that not many people see very often. He was hanging near the river when he noticed a helpless animal that needed help. This animal was a baby deer, and he was drowning helplessly in the river. Belal then realized that he had to make a choice. We all have choices in life, and sometimes the easiest ones are the ones that happen in the blink of an eye. As Belal would soon find out, these were the most rewarding as well. But interestingly enough, Belal wasn’t the only one in the vicinity who noticed the deer in the river, scared and alone.
There was another group of people in the area that happened to see Belal as he was making his big decision. And this is where the story gets interesting. Because while much of this story talks about the monumental choice that Belal made, it’s important to take note why what he did was so important. The brave actions that the Bangladeshi teen took had groundbreaking results for a number of reasons. It wasn’t just what he did – it was the fact that everyone was there to see it.
As we said before, it should never be taken lightly how powerful heroes and role models are, and sometimes, they come from unexpected places. What makes this story so unique is that we have ourselves a hero who was merely a kid, and young boy who inspired the likes of a handful of elderly gentlemen. In fact, one of the people Belal inspired was a wildlife photographer named Hasibul Wahab, who saw the heroism that was ensuing in front of him, and decided to document the whole thing. He did this by taking pictures of the whole event, and he too couldn’t believe his eyes. And thanks to him, neither can we.
